Woman Arrested for Transporting Large Amount of Cocaine

MARMETThe MARMET Drug Task Force says a woman was arrested early Wednesday morning after she admitted to transporting a large amount of cocaine that came from Detroit and was headed for Mansfield.

On April 10, 2013 at approximately 1:00am, Detective Andy Isom of the MARMET Drug Task Force stopped a vehicle for a traffic infraction. When talking with the vehicle occupants, Isom said all appeared very nervous and had different stories. After a short time, Isom said one of the females in the vehicle admitted she had possession of a “significant amount” of cocaine.

Because she revealed the cocaine was being transported in a body cavity, a female officer was called to the scene and the drugs were recovered.

Investigators say the suspect, 24-year-old Magony D’Jane Lawson of Detroit, was in route to Mansfield, where the drugs were to be sold. Lawson was arrested and another female was arrested on an outstanding probation warrant from Mansfield.

Formal charges are pending with the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office. Major Bill Collins of the Marion Police Department says the amount of the cocaine involved, 44.9 grams, will likely result in a first degree felony count of Trafficking in Cocaine.

“This is just another example of the great group of people we currently have working the drug task force, and they will continue their relentless approach to this problem,” Major Collins stated.
