winfield-2013-shirtThe Brandy Winfield Memorial Fundraiser Corporation says the 9th Annual Brandy Winfield Memorial Poker Run continues to grow. One change is that this year’s event will include two bands. Proceeds from the ride will go to Marion County Relay for Life, Marion Safety City Program, and towards a new K-9 unit for the Marion Police Department.

This year’s poker run will be Saturday, June 1, 2013 starting and finishing at the Marion County Fairgrounds’ Veterans Memorial Coliseum, 220 East Fairground Street in Marion.

The day at the Fairgrounds Veterans Memorial Coliseum will begin with a breakfast starting at 8:30.  Registration begins at 9 a.m. and will end at 11:00.  All bikes will leave the Fairgrounds at 11:30. T-shirts to celebrate the 9th year of the ride with a special design honoring Brandy will be available for purchase on the day of the ride.

Cost for the 2013 Poker Run will be $25/couple, $20/single and includes a catered dinner at the end of the ride. Also planned are a 50/50 drawing, beer garden and entertainment provided by not one but two bands this year — Left of Center and the Bare Knuckle Band. If you can’t ride during the day you are invited to come for dinner at 6 p.m. or to listen to the bands after 7 p.m. The dinner cost is $10 per person.

Camping will be available at the Fairgrounds. Call 740-389-5974 to reserve your space.  The cost is $30 with electric and water provided.

“We invite everyone to join us as we once again ride in honor of fallen Marion County Deputy Sheriff, Brandy Winfield. It is with great honor and pride that this event continues in memory of Officer Winfield’s spirit and dedication while serving the citizens of Marion County,“ stated Chairman Chris Sanders.

The Brandy Winfield Memorial Poker Run has been able to help many worthwhile causes over the past 9 years with the support of everyone involved.  Proceeds from the 2013 ride will benefit causes important to the family of Brandy Winfield.

  • Marion County Relay for Life
    • A life-changing event that helps Marion County celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease.
  • Marion Safety City Program
    • This organization works to the heart of what Brandy stood for – helping children be safe and have fun in a positive way. The program educates young children on basic home safety, stranger awareness, fire safety and bicycle safety. This program has served the children of Marion County for many years and provides a safe environment for children to make contact with and learn from law enforcement officers and firefighter/EMS personnel.
  • Marion City Police Department K-9 Unit
    • We all know that Marion has been hit hard by the drug epidemic. We greatly appreciate the hard work of the MARMET Task Force, Marion City Police Department, Marion County Sheriff’s Department, the Highway State Patrol and all Fire Department and EMS Personnel and we want to do what we can do to help support these men and women.  Our donation will help put another office on the streets of Marion with the addition of a new K-9 Unit.

Since the first run on June 4, 2005, the Brandy Winfield Memorial Poker Run has raised $133,325. The groups and organizations that have benefited from this are the Winfield Children Trust Fund, The Brandy Winfield Memorial Scholarship Fund, Ridgedale High School Athletic Department, Concerns of Police Survivors – Ohio Chapter, Concerns of Police Survivors – Kids Camp, Tri-Rivers Joint Vocational School Law Enforcement Program, Safety City of Marion, the Fraternal Order of Police Steve Young Memorial Lodge, the Richwood, Ohio Police Department K-9 Fund, Youth Athletics, the children of Chevette Jessie, the Marion County Relay for Life, Marion Junior Service Guild’s Christmas Clearinghouse, Boys & Girls Club of Marion County, Marion County Red Cross, Wounded Warriors, Cops and Kids and Marion City Police Officer Cory Winfield’s recovery after he was struck by a drunk driver while riding his motorcycle home after his shift on August 19th, 2007.
