Cool Weather Delays Aquatic Center Opening

Extra cool weather ruined the Memorial Day Weekend opening of Marion’s Lincoln Park Family Aquatic Center. Opening day is now scheduled for Thursday, May 30, 2013, but, of course, that is weather permitting.

Hours for Thursday are scheduled to be noon to 7:00pm.

Jeannie Brewer, director of the aquatic center, said there are health and safety guidelines that must be followed in order for the pool to open and one of them is the outside temperature in addition to the temperature of the water.

Thursday will also be an open house for the center’s new AquaZumba program. From 7:00pm to 8:00pm, visitors may sample a class for the donation of an item for care boxes to send to military personal overseas. Items that can be donated include personal hygiene items such as razors, tooth paste & brushes, deodorant; hard candies, small bags of chips or snacks, un-sealed personal greeting cards, playing cards or other small games, etc. Items will be packed into special boxes the size of a shoe box to be shipped.

The regular AquaZumba classes begin Tuesday, June 4 and will include eight classes held on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The Members Only evening, which was also canceled due to weather, has been rescheduled for Saturday, June 8th from 7:00pm to 9:00pm.
