Council Holding Two Water Company Discussion on Monday

Marion City HallMarion City Council will hold two discussions on Monday, June 10, 2013 about Aqua Ohio’s plan to start using chloramines as a secondary disinfectant. The discussion was originally set to be held along with the regular Council meeting at 7:30pm, but an additional session has now been scheduled earlier in the evening.

Municipal Services, Parks and Recreation Committee will meet at 6:30pm and on their agenda is a discussion with the Ohio EPA concerning the use of chloramines in the water system.

While Aqua Ohio insists the process is safe, a vocal group of residents has pressured City Council to demand that the company not use chloramines and instead find an alternative.

During the full City Council meeting, members are set to discuss a resolution that would enact a 45 day moratorium on any chemical changes and would issue stiff fines for violations.

Other items on Council’s agenda Monday include:

  • Municipal Services, Parks and Recreation Committee will discuss updating the existing job description of the Zoning Inspector;
  • Second reading of an ordinance to vacate a certain 16.52’ wide north/south alley between 436, 442 North Main Street and 443 North State Street. A Public Hearing is set for June 24, 2013;
  • Authorizing the assumption of all City related mortgages with Marion Senior Housing Limited Partnership on the former Harding Hotel building by Lois Fisher and Associates and, if allowed by the Ohio Development Services Agency, the release of the 5th mortgage, known as the Discretionary Grant to the City of Marion for a loan to said partnership.

Marion City Council meets on the second floor of City Hall and all meetings are open to the public.
