Free Informational Events Offered to Local Seniors

Veterans and other seniors can take advantage of two free events at Kingston Residence of Marion is hosting two events on Wednesday, June 26, 2013.

“Get Hip—Don’t Slip: A Fall Prevention Program” is the topic of the Community Chat from Noon to 1:00pm. The presenter is Heather Michalak LPTA/BA HealthCare Management Program Manager for Genesis Rehab Services.

“One out of three adults age 65 and older falls each year. This Community Chat will focus on increasing the awareness of a person’s fear of falling and the impact this has on their life,” explained Michalak. “It will also include a better understanding of how to lower their personal risk for falling and increased confidence in their own ability to prevent falls.”

There is no cost for the Community Chat and a complimentary light lunch will be provided by Kingston from 11:30am to noon for pre-registered participants.

Dick Reish of the Marion County Veterans Service Commission will be available to meet with veterans and spouses of veterans from 1:00pm to 2:00 pm. Reish will discuss financial assistance for assisted living called “Aid and Attendance.” “Aid and Attendance” is a commonly used term for a benefit from the Department of Veterans Affairs that is available to qualifying wartime Veterans and their surviving spouses.
