No derecho, but storms that roared through Ohio overnight caused plenty of damage from strong winds, large hail, and heavy rain. A tornado was reported near Prospect, a barn near LaRue was blown down and into a home, and a building on Water Street in Caledonia was heavily damaged.
The Caledonia building was a three-story structure, but was nearly leveled in the storm.
The EMA Director for Morrow County has said there were two reports of possible tornado touchdowns there.
The large amount of rain that was received from several waves of storms cause flash flood warning for northern Marion County last night. Flood advisories continue Thursday for streams and low lying areas.
Sporadic power outages were reported with Ohio Edison still working to restore some Marion County customers Thursday morning. Across the state, about 45,000 were reported as being without power.
Still, the results of the storm were nothing like would have come if another derecho had ripped through the area as it did a year ago.
An official with the Ohio Emergency Management Agency says straight-line winds topping 70 mph were reported in some areas overnight. More than two dozen tornado warnings were issued, but no tornados have yet been confirmed. No serious injuries were reported to the state.
As with anytime storms cause damage, residents should be wary of companies offering to do repairs. Many scam artists come out during these times and you should take steps to protect yourself. For tips on avoiding scams, click here.
