Kids’ College Features New Offerings at OSUM

Ohio State Marion’s Kids’ CollegeArea schools have wound down for the academic year and it won’t be long before the summer doldrums set in for central Ohio kids.  A mindless multitude of hours watching television and playing the same video games over and over lead to the inevitable phrase, “Mom, I’m bored.”

Ohio State Marion’s annual summer youth day camp program, Kids’ College, hopes to offer a break to the summer doldrums through three weeks of interactive, four-day summer learning experiences:  June 17-20, June 24-27, and July 8-11.

Course offerings for this year include:  Young Scientists; LEGO® Jr. Vehicle Engineering; Home Grown Artists, Ohio Connections with Art; Psychology for Kids, Feelings Friends, Family, Future, & Fun; Getting to Know Birds of Ohio; LEGO® Vehicle Engineering; Amazing Adventures; Fastest Sport on Two Feet…Lacrosse!; and CSI Marion.

Offering summer enrichment experiences is the ongoing goal of Kids’ College. The program is designed to expand the horizons of adventurous children from ages 7 to 12 by introducing them to higher education and the college campus. This unique program encourages area youth to learn about the world around them through a series of themed interactive learning opportunities held at Ohio State Marion.  The program has been a key outreach effort of The Ohio State University at Marion since 1999.

Class fees are reduced for three or more registrations from one family. A limited number of need-based scholarships are available for those students who are eligible for the free or reduced lunch program.  If students are enrolled in two classes in the same week, there will be a supervised break between sessions, and a box lunch will be provided (however, children with special dietary needs must bring their own lunches). Class size is limited, so early enrollment is encouraged. Sessions are subject to cancellation if minimum enrollment is not met.

For registration and detailed information please visit http://.osumarion.osu.edu/kids_college or contact the Ohio State Marion Office of Community Relations, (740) 725-6341, or send an email to [email protected].  Registration deadline for Kids’ College first session is Monday, June 10, 2013.
