“Set The Stage” Theatre Camps offers area youth the opportunity to become involved in the arts as part of the theatre’s summer program. Registration deadline is one week before camp begins. Organizers say spaces fill up quickly and urge those interested to register early.
“Set The Stage” Theatre Camp has become a summertime tradition for many young thespians of all skill levels. Youth who will participate in “Set The Stage” Theatre Camp at the Marion Palace Theatre are immersed in the production process and will learn lines and cues, prepare song and dance numbers and perform on the Palace stage. This camp will teach students acting skills, give them performance experience, build a sense of accomplishment, and most of all allow time to have fun.
Students may choose between camp dates July 29-August 2 and August 5-August 9. Johnny Steiner, professional singer, performer and voice instructor, will direct these theatre camps.
Students are divided into age appropriate camps. Children ages 6 to 8 years will meet from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon Monday through Thursday and learn a whimsical musical comedy written by Johnny titled “Anchors Aweigh!” about a rollicking cruise around the world. The musical features familiar sea chanteys, singing, dancing and a ‘synchronized swimming’ routine.
Students age 9 to 14 years will meet from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm Monday through Thursday to collaborate on the mini-musical “Pirates! The Musical” by John Jacobson and Roger Emerson. Participants will become a pirate speaking, salty crew of colorful scallywags as they hoist the Jolly Roger and set sail for a mighty adventure on the high seas.
On Friday afternoon all campers will come together for rehearsals at 3pm and a final performance for friends and family at 5:30pm. Morning camp fee is $65. Afternoon camp fee is $75 and includes healthy snacks.
Thanks to funding from the William Disbrow Arts Palace Scholarship Fund, a limited number of scholarships are available to students based on need and artistic interest.
