Police Seek Witnesses to Reported Shooting

Marion Police DepartmentThe Marion Police Department is looking for people who may have been witness to gun shots being fired during the late evening on Saturday. At 11:01pm on July 13, 2013, the department received multiple 911 calls reporting shots fired in the 600 block of Bellefontaine Avenue, near the eastern set of railroad tracks.

Witnesses reported that a Silver Land Rover, occupied by a male driver with dreadlocks and a front male passenger with a blue shirt, was in the area. The male subject with the blue shirt was also seen chasing two young male subjects northbound on the railroad tracks.

Investigators say a Land Rover, with occupants matching witness’ descriptions, was observed travelling back through the scene of the shooting after officers arrived on scene. Those subjects were brought back to the Marion Police Department and later released pending further investigation. A third subject was also questioned and released.

“If you were in the area when this shooting took place, we are asking that you call and tell us what you saw or heard,” stated Lt. B.J. Gruber of the Marion Police Department. “Sometimes we can be given the same information ten times and the eleventh is the one that makes the difference.”

Any person who has information that may be relevant to this investigation is asked to immediately call the Marion Police Department at 740-387-2525 or the Marion County Tips Line at 740-375-TIPS (8477).
