Police Warn of Scam Involving Offer of Cheap Cigarettes

Marion Police DepartmentThe Marion Police Department is warning area residents of a scam involving the offer of cheap cigarettes. Officials said they have received several calls during the past week of a man offering to sell cartons of cigarettes for $10.

Investigators say the man tells the victim that he will need a ride to go and pick up the cigarettes. He then has the victim drop him off in the area of the 500-block of North Prospect Street or the 500-block of Oak Street. He then tells the victim that he is going to a private residence to get the cigarettes. However, once he gets the money and exits the vehicle he runs off.

Police say the suspect is described as a white male in his mid 20s with dark hair and a full beard. He is 5’07”-5’09” tall with a thin build.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the police department at 740-387-2525.
