Following a two-week investigation into drug trafficking, members of the Marion Police Department, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and the MARMET Drug Task Force conducted a search warrant on Thursday, July 25, 2013, at 208 Blaine Avenue. Four people were arrested as a part of the investigation.
“MARMET wants to keep the heat on the drug dealers in Marion. We have two words for them, ‘Get out!’ Marion is a great community and it will take the entire community, as well as the judicial system, to tell the drug dealers that their behavior is not welcome in Marion,” stated Lt. Chris Adkins.
Two of the men picked up Thursday had recently been arrested for drug-related charges and one was out on bond for trafficking in heroin.
“I know I have spoken about arresting the same people over and over. Seeing the same people, commit the same crime is very disturbing,” stated Lt. Adkins.
“The same pattern exists in this case as many others. Out of town drug dealers come to Marion and get a local person to allow them to move into their homes and sell drugs,” explained Lt. Adkins.
Those arrested included:
- Cornell Shepard, 22, of Chicago, IL, for two counts of trafficking in Heroin and one count of trafficking in drugs
- Otis Oliver, 25, of Chicago, IL, for three counts of trafficking in Heroin and 1 count of trafficking in drugs
- Jessica Tackett, 28, of Marion, for Permitting Drug Abuse
- Durrain Land, 24, of Chicago, IL, for Obstructing Official Business, Resisting Arrest, and Bond Violation
