Festival Attendees Asked to Remember Local Businesses

Downtown MarionWith the mass of food and miscellaneous vendors filling up the streets in the downtown area this weekend for the Popcorn Festival, it can be easy to overlook the local businesses that are open year round. Downtown Marion is reminding festival attendees there are lots of places to visit, including several restaurants, just on the other side of the sidewalk.

Karen Herr, Downtown Marion Manager, says that if all the fried food just isn’t your thing, there are several restaurants that will be open, including

  • Baires on South Main Street will be open from 8 – 11 for breakfast on Thursday and Friday. You’ll also be able to get Marcela’s sweet treats in the Festival’s Wine Tent from 3pm to about 8pm).
  • The Candy Shack & CafĂ© in Charleston Place will be open from 7:30 – noon for breakfast, then with a lunch menu from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. all three days of the Festival.
  • Maury’s on Main is back open under new ownership and will be open during the Festival from 6 a.m. until 1 a.m. serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. And if you can’t get away, they’ll all deliver lunches in the Festival area.

Of course there are also lots of retail stores open, including Crown Tower, Home Again Stained Glass & More (they’ll be open late), Curiosity, Keefer’s, Just for Kidz, Rocky’s Cyclery or the stores of Charleston Place (Nadine’s Framing, Southern Accents, Hope Crossing Christian books & gifts, Red Door Boutique, Spin a Yarn Fiber Garden, antique store).

Newer stores include The Mystic’s Den on the corner of Main & Church Streets and The Clothesline on South Main Street across from Curiosity.

Herr also says to not forget to stop by the Popcorn Museum in Heritage Hall open each afternoon of the Festival or check out the historic Palace Theatre’s upcoming season of entertainment while enjoying a free concert by Robert James McArthur who will be doing a Neil Diamond tribute at 2:00pm Thursday afternoon.
