Attorney General Mike DeWine has announced that a man convicted of raping a child while babysitting will go to prison for at least the next 15 years. Friday afternoon, a Marion County Common Pleas judge sentenced Randy Spencer, 28, to 15-years to life in prison.
The case was investigated and prosecuted by attorneys with Attorney General DeWine’s Special Prosecutions Section and Crimes Against Children Unit.
“We are very happy that we were able to get justice for the five-year-old victim in this case, who was extremely brave throughout this entire process,” said Attorney General DeWine. “This case is an example of why I formed the Crimes Against Children Unit. People who prey on Ohio’s children will be arrested and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
A jury found Spencer guilty of four counts of rape last week.
The crimes happened between June 2012 and April 2013 while Spencer was babysitting the child in Marion County. At the time, Spencer was employed as a corrections officer in Delaware County and an auxiliary officer in Marion County. He also previously worked as Marion County sheriff’s deputy.
