The Marion Police Department has announced the addition of their newest officer, a Dutch Shepherd named Six. The K9 is assigned to handler Officer Mark Elliott.
The Department says Six’s name has two meanings. The first is that six is a military term where having someone watch your “6″ means they have your back. This is a nod to the American Legion for their donation to the K9 program.
Also, Deputy Brandy Winfield’s badge number was six. The name is a nod to Brandy and the Brandy Winfield Memorial Poker Run which also gave the department a very generous donation that helped make their purchase of Six possible.
After Six and Officer Elliott complete their training, the Department says they should be patrolling Marion together later this year.
The Department extended a special thank you to American Legion Post 584, Brandy Winfield Memorial Poker Run, Nachurs Alpine Solutions Corp. and William Yantis for their support.
