OSUM Team Wins Contest by One Hot Wing

1641The 13th Annual Hot Wing Eating Contest resulted in the closest finish on record. United Way of Marion County’s campaign theme, “UN1TE: It takes just one”, held true as just one hot wing separated the 1st place team from the 2nd place teams.

The Ohio State University at Marion’s “Blazin’ Buckeyes” took home the trophies with 126 wings on Friday, October 25, 2013, at Grant Middle School. This was their third straight win. The Blazin’ Buckeyes were comprised of Bobbi Wilds, Josh Tennar, Wayne Rowe, Doug Bolles, and Shawn Jackson.

Tying for second place, with 125 wings each, were the Grant Middle School staff and Juvenile Probation’s “Kiddie Cops” teams.  Then, just six wings behind second and tying for third place were Marion City Police and Marion Industrial Center.

31 teams entered the contest and in just five minutes, over 2,500 wings were downed.

The event, sponsored by Buffalo Wild Wings and Knights of Columbus, Marion Council, serves as Grant Middle School students’ fundraising effort for United Way of Marion County. This year’s effort raised more than $2,400 for the 2013 Campaign, which benefits nineteen local agencies thirty-three local programs.

Of the money raised from the event, Grant Middle School students raised $400 in spirit dollars and Ta Die For Gourmet Cupcakes raised $630 – more than any other group competing.
