On December 16, 2013, the Marion Police Department swore in three new members of the department. Since the passage of an income tax increase last year, several officers that had previously been laid off were brought back. Bret Thomas, Michael Kindell and Greg Sens became the first new officers to join the department since 2008.
Bret Thomas is a 2005 graduate of Marion Harding High School and obtained his Ohio Peace Officer Certificate through Marion Technical College in 2010. Bret served in the United States Army from 2005 through 2013, including deployments to Egypt and Afghanistan. Bret began his law enforcement career with the Bucyrus Police Department in July of 2013 before choosing to come to the Marion Police Department and serve his hometown community.
Michael Kindell is a 1998 graduate of River Valley High School, an Associate Degree from the Marion Technical College in 2012 and obtained his Ohio Peace Officer Certificate from the Marion Technical College in 2012. Michael served in the United States Air Force from 2002 through 2008, including deployments to Iraq. Michael began his law enforcement career with the Edison Police Department before coming to the Marion Police Department.
Greg Sens is a 2000 graduate of Pleasant High School and obtained his Ohio Peace Officer Certificate in 2008 through the Marion Technical College. Greg served in the United States Marine Corps from 2002 through 2006, including deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. Greg began his career in law enforcement with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office before coming to the Marion Police Department.
“We are very excited to have 3 young men of this quality join the Marion Police Department” said Interim Chief Randall Caryer. “They are eager to begin their careers and to make a positive impact on our community” said Caryer.
