Two Women Injured in Accidental Shooting

Marion Police DepartmentThe Marion Police Department reported that two women were injured when a shot gun blast ripped through the floor of a second story apartment and struck them.

Officers responded on Thursday, February 27, 2014 at about 4:25 p.m. to the report of a shooting at 423 South Prospect Street. Upon arrival, officers said they located two female victims with wounds.

The first victim had wounds to her left cheek, right arm and right leg. The second had a wound to her right leg. Both victims were transported to Marion General Hospital by the Marion City Fire Department squad with non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators said they learned that the victims had been meeting with three other people at the residence for a prayer service when the neighbor in the upstairs apartment accidentally discharged a shotgun into his floor. The buck shot from the shotgun came through the ceiling and struck the two victims, causing the injuries.

The other three subjects in the room were not injured.

Police said Terry Thacker, age 59, is facing charges in the incident.
