Marion Grocery Designated as First “Healthy in a Hurry Corner Store”

Healthy in HurryA grand re-opening event is planned for Thursday, May 1, 2014 to debut JMJ Discount Food and More as the first Marion Healthy in a Hurry Corner Store.  JMJ Discount Food and More, LLC is partnering with Creating Healthy Communities and Pioneering Healthier Communities Marion to identify convenient healthy food choices.

During an open house from 4:30 to 6:30pm demonstrations and door prizes will be offered.

The community is invited to attend the event which will feature Farm to Family cooking demonstrations by the Marion Farm Bureau.  The Farm to Family program is an initiative started by the Marion County Farm Bureau to help families learn to prepare nutritious, yet affordable meals. The public will sample easy family friendly meals and receive recipes.

Healthy in a Hurry Corner Store designation recognizes the healthy food choices offered at neighborhood stores and helps to steer customers toward healthier choices. Funding to designate Marion Healthy in a Hurry Corner Stores by Pioneering Healthier Communities and Creating Healthy Communities comes from the Marion Community Foundation.

Pam Cudd, the owner operator of the store, is on a mission to bring low cost groceries to the neighborhood and plans to expand her produce choices this summer by growing vegetables to sell.  The store accepts EBT payments for groceries. The store does not sell alcohol or tobacco products. Instead, Cudd says they focus on providing value to customers through discounts.

JMJ Discount Food and More, LLC is located at 246 Klerx Avenue across the street from the Boys & Girls Club of Marion County.
