2014 ATHENA recipient Phyllis Butterworth, second from the left, recently received the Marion Woman’s Business Council and Modern Woodman check for her non-profit Spirit Of Hope Fund. The $3,200 was raised through the silent auction the day of the ATHENA Luncheon and matched by Modern Woodman. The Spirit Of Hope Fund helps those who are fighting cancer with many of the little things, gas, a special meal, paying a bill, medicine and more.
The ATHENA Award recognizes outstanding business and professional women in the community and to create an environment where providing assistance, encouragement and mentoring to women would be uniquely valued. The ATHENA Foundation has come to embody the principles of a new kind of leadership reflected in far-reaching initiatives for the future.
This year’s nominees included Winnie Brewer, Karen Herr, Theresa Lubke, Julie McGinnis and Beth Meadows.
Those presenting the check from Modern Woodman were Lori Seckel, Kathie Seckel and Pam Pinney.
