Marion Habitat for Humanity Holding Women Build Day

Habitat for HumanityWomen are digging in to help Habitat for Humanity of Marion County Ohio, Inc. (HFHMCOI) make home ownership a reality for the Jiles family. On Saturday, May 10, 2014, a female crew will help the Jiles build their home as a part of Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build program.

This house will add to the over 1,500 Habitat homes built through this program by women throughout the United States. It is the first Lowe’s Women Build undertaken by HFHMCOI. The program, underwritten by Lowe’s, gives women the opportunity to learn construction skills and to move children out of poverty housing.

According to Census Bureau statistics, more than 12 million U.S. Children – one out of every six – are living in poverty. Within Marion County nearly one in four under the age of 18 currently live in poverty.

Habitat for Humanity of Marion County Ohio, Inc., an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry dedicated to eliminating poverty housing. Habitat for Humanity brings together people with resources and people in need to build simple, decent, affordable houses. The houses are sold to those in need at no profit. HFHMCOI was founded in 1993 and is building its 30th home in the Marion community.

HFHMCOI’s Women Build will take place on May 10, 2014 from 8:00am to 2:00pm at the 2014 build site, 561 Mound Street. Activities include a bake sale on site; the public is invited to shop the baked goods, see the build site, and get more information about Habitat for Humanity, including the ReStore.
