Dennis Mattix accepts the 2013 Marion Area CVB Customer Service Star Award from Van Creasap, Marion Area CVB board chair, and Dane Watson, Marion Area CVB Executive Director.

The Marion Area Convention and Visitor’s Bureau on Thursday, May 29, presented Dennis and Donna Mattix of the Owen’s Opera House with the 2013 Customer Service Star Award and RAMTEC (Robotics & Advanced Manufacturing Technology Education Collaborative) with the 2013 Community Ambassador Award for their promotion of the community.

In addition to the awards, the CVB also recognized other people that have demonstrated excellent customer service and are adamant volunteers. Their service has helped prove Marion’s slogan of making guests “Feel Right at Home.”

Four nominees were up for the Customer Service Star Award. All were very deserving of the award, stated Diane Watson, Marion Area CVB Executive Director, making it difficult to choose a winner. The Board of Directors selected the Mattix’s because of their several glowing reviews collected by the Marion CVB from past tour groups. Visitors were pleasantly surprised to receive complimentary homemade ice cream and pies. Their intention was to make sure their guests received a memorable and historic experience.

The other nominees were:

  • Linda Steed, Breakfast Hostess Country Inn and Suites
  • Steve Hindman, Elder-Beerman Associate
  • The entire crew of Marion Area Transit

The Marion Area Convention and Visitor’s Bureau awarded The Community Ambassador to RAMTEC for its state-of-the-art technology and unique education experience for students. It is the first of its kind in Ohio and has received a lot of attention from people all over Ohio. Hundreds of people, from politicians to international students and instructors, have come to tour RAMTEC has to offer in just the last 6 months since opening in 2013.

“Their tours and open house events have offered community connections and have helped forge important partnerships,” said Watson. “This made them an obvious choice for our 2013 Community Ambassador Award.”

The CVB is also celebrating their ninth year of offering the Marion’s Amazing Treasures, a scavenger hunt that runs from Memorial Day through Labor to promote local attractions. Sponsors for the event include the Marion Family YMCA for contributing a family membership as part of the grand prize for the winner, United Federal Credit Union, Storad Label, Perkins Restaurant and Buffalo Wild Wings, as well as the Marion Star and Heartland of Marion.
