Some of the Marion area’s best and brightest graduating seniors were honored at Marion Rotary Club’s Annual Scholarship Day held on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at the Marion Palace Theatre’s May Pavilion. All of the students receiving scholarships graduated in the top 15% of their class with solid grade point averages.
Eight of the twelve students earning scholarships on the afternoon plan to attend The Ohio State University. Four students have chosen to take classes on the Columbus campus and four have chosen to attend The Ohio State University at Marion.
The scholarships awarded included:
Robert C. Dowd Scholarship
The Robert C. Dowd Scholarship in the amount of $2,000 was awarded to Elgin’s Joclyn Cabanas. Cabanas graduated 6th in her class. She plans to attend The Ohio State University, Columbus campus and major in Spanish.
Ralph W. Howard Scholarship
The Ralph W. Howard Scholarship in the amount of $2,000 was awarded to River Valley’s Jimmy Longo. Longo graduated 9th in his class. He plans to attend The Ohio State University to study law.
Robert E. Kibbey Scholarship
The Robert E. Kibbey Scholarship in the amount of $2,000 was awarded to Ridgedale’s Morgan Adams. Adams graduated 2nd in her class. She plans to attend The Ohio State University at Marion and later transition to the Columbus campus to complete her major in nursing.
D. Warren Brown Scholarship
The D. Warren Brown Scholarship in the amount of $2,000 was awarded to Marion Hardings’s Grecia Catalan. Catalan graduated 26th out of 217 in her class. She plans to attend The Ohio State University at Marion to major in business administration.
Warren G. Harding Scholarship
The Warren G. Harding Scholarship in the amount of $2,000 was awarded to Marion Harding’s Ashley Brancamp. Brancamp graduated 30th out of 217 in her class. She plans to attend The Ohio State University’s Fisher College of Business and major in finance.
R.T. Lewis Scholarship
The R.T. Lewis Scholarship in the amount of $2,000 was awarded to Elgin’s Hannah Fuller. Fuller graduated 10th in her class. She plans to attend The Ohio State University at Marion and major in middle childhood education, with a concentration in social studies.
Robert C. Dowd Scholarship
The Robert C. Dowd Scholarship in the amount of $2,000 was awarded to Pleasant’s Kim Cannane. Cannane graduated 5th in her class. She plans to attend The Ohio State University, Columbus campus to major in nursing.
Hoover Brown Scholarship
The Hoover Brown Scholarship in the amount of $2,000 was awarded to Ridgedale’s Lindsey Bridges. Bridges graduated 5th in her class. She plans to attend The Ohio State University at Marion in the fall to begin a major in nursing.
Others earning scholarships included: David Schuring of Pleasant, Wayne H. Kuhn Scholarship; Ian Kieffer of Pleasant, Harold W. Hall Scholarship; Emily Griffith of River Valley, Karl Schell Scholarship; and Abbey Larson of Ridgedale, Marion Rotary Foundation Scholarship. These students plan to attend private 4 year colleges in Ohio including; Ashland University, Bluffton University, Ohio Northern, and Wittenberg University.
