Upcoming Palace Theatre Movies Include Mr. Peabody and 12 Years a Slave

Marion Palace TheatreThe Marion Palace Theatre management has announced movie-goers will have the opportunity to enjoy movies the remaining weekends in June at the historic theatre located in downtown Marion.

The animated adventure comedy “Mr. Peabody and Sherman” will be shown on Saturday, June 14 and Sunday, June 15 at 2 p.m. & 7:30 p.m.

Mr. Peabody is a business titan, inventor, scientist, food connoisseur, two-time Olympic medalist and genius…who also happens to be a dog. Sherman is Mr. Peabody’s adopted boy.  In this family-friendly film, the pair goes on a time-travelling adventure to experience world-changing events first-hand with some of the greatest characters of all time. But when Sherman accidentally breaks the rules of time travel, our two heroes find themselves in a race to repair history and save the future, while Mr. Peabody may face his biggest challenge yet – being a parent.

“Mr. Peabody and Sherman” stars the voice of Ty Burrell of ‘Modern Family’ and Max Charles. The film is rated PG for some mild action and brief rude humor and runs 92 minutes.

“12 Years A Slave” is being presented in conjunction with the Marion Public Library to help kick off their Summer of Civil Rights Celebration honoring the 50th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act.  The movie will be shown at the Marion Palace Theatre Friday, June 20 at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, June 21 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, June 22 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

The Academy Award-winning 2014 film “12 Years A Slave” is based on the incredible true-story of one man’s fight for survival and freedom during the pre-Civil War United States.  Solomon Northup, a free black man from upstate New York, is abducted and sold into slavery. Facing cruelty at the hands of a malevolent slave owner, as well as unexpected kindnesses, Solomon struggles not only to stay alive, but to retain his dignity. In the twelfth year of his unforgettable odyssey, Solomon’s chance meeting with a Canadian abolitionist will forever alter his life.

The film starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael Fassbender, Benedict Cumberbatch, Paul Dano, Paul Giamatti, Lupita Nyong’O, Sarah Paulson, Brad Pitt and Alfre Woodard, earned three Oscars in March 2014 for Best Picture, Best Supporting Actress (Lupita Nyong‘O ) and Best Screen Play Adaptation. This movie is rated R for violence/cruelty, some nudity and brief sexuality and runs 2 hours, 14 minutes.

The movie title for June 27, 28 and 29 is yet to be decided.
