Ohio Department of Public Safety’s Ohio Investigative Unit recently worked three high-profile music events in Ohio, arresting 160 people for various alcohol related offenses.
From Thursday, July 17 – Sunday, July 20, 2014, agents charged 99 people with mostly underage alcohol violations during the annual Jamboree in the Hills music festival. Other charges during the four-day festival included furnishing alcohol to an underage person, false identification, marijuana possession, marijuana paraphernalia and illegal possession of spirituous liquor.
On Friday, agents arrested 35 people for alcohol related offenses during the Jason Aldean concert at Progressive Field in Cleveland. Charges include underage and fake ID violations, as well as obstructing official business. On Saturday, July 19, during the Jason Aldean concert at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati, agents charged 26 people with underage alcohol violations.
Agents often work large events such as these, in partnership or at the request of the local law enforcement authority.
The Ohio Investigative Unit agents are plain-clothed fully sworn peace officers. OIU is charged with enforcing the state’s liquor laws and is the only state law enforcement agency specifically tasked with investigating food stamp fraud crimes. Agents also investigate tobacco violations.
