Clint Black, Musicals, & More Coming Up at the Palace Theatre

Marion Palace TheatreThe Palace Cultural Arts Association (PCAA) has announced their line-up for the 2014-15 season at the historic Marion Palace Theatre and the May Pavilion.  The theatre will host 7 local Palace Productions, 6 touring artists on the main stage, 5 School Matinee shows, 4 Central Ohio bands in the May Pavilion, 3 holiday celebrations and 1 day dedicated to the Disney songbook.

Tickets for all shows go on sale to the public Monday, August 4 at 9:00 a.m.  The 2014-2015 Marion Palace Theatre season is funded by the Ohio Arts Council.

“The Fantasticks” directed by Greg Patterson – August 22, 23, 24 – Fri & Sat at 7:30pm, Sun at 2pm

“The Fantasticks” is a funny and romantic musical about a boy, a girl, two fathers and a wall. The audience travels into a world of moonlight and magic and sees the boy and the girl fall in love, grow apart, and finally find their way back to each other. General Admission $15.  May Pavilion.

Disney’s “Peter Pan, Jr.” directed by Kristi Wink – October 10, 11, 12 – Fri & Sat at 7:30pm, Sun at 2pm

Disney’s “Peter Pan, Jr.” is a modern version of the timeless tale about a boy who wouldn’t grow up.  The score includes new arrangements of classic Disney songs, such as “You Can Fly” and “Yo Ho, A Pirate’s Life for Me.” This junior production stars local youth. Sponsored by Jim & Barb Greetham. Reserved Seating $18 adults, $12 students. Main stage.

“The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged)” directed by Charles Groth – October 24, 25, 26 – Fri & Sat at 7:30pm, Sun at 2pm

This is Shakespeare like you’ve never seen it before! Three crazy actors will present a fast-paced, gag-a-second delight deconstructing all 37 of the Bard’s plays-plus the sonnets-into a single 90 minute whirlwind. General Admission $15. May Pavilion.

“Christmas at the Palace” Directed by Clare Cooke – December 5, 6, 7 – Fri & Sat at 7:30pm, Sun at 2pm

Soon it will be that time of year again and that means it will be time for an annual production of “Christmas at the Palace!” Over 400 friends, neighbors and family members will deliver the gift of entertainment and rekindle Christmas memories at the historic Marion Palace Theatre. Sponsored by Morral Companies & Central Ohio Farmers Co-op.  Reserved Seating $17-$22 adults, $12 children age 12 and younger. Main stage.

“Memoirs & Memories” Directed by Brad Bebout – February 28 & March 1 – Sat at 7:30pm, Sun at 2pm

A selection of Marion Palace Theatre stage veterans share their memories and memoirs of their experiences related to theatre and the Marion Palace Theatre.  Among those joining director Brad Bebout will be Ron Boose, Lynette Burris, John W. Garnes, II, Sara Grote, Ann Schertzer and Kristi Wink to share stories and perform favorite song, dance and instrumental numbers. Reserved Seating $18 adults, $12 children age 12 and younger. Main stage.

“Funny Girl” Directed by Scott Persinger – March 20, 21, 22 – Fri & Sat at 7:30pm, Sun at 2pm

“Funny Girl” is the story of real-life entertainment legend Fanny Brice. The story follows her rise to stardom with the Ziegfeld Follies and her marriage to and eventual divorce from Nick Arnstein. Musical numbers include “Don’t Rain On My Parade,” “People,” and “You Are Woman, I Am Man.”  General Admission $15. May Pavilion.

“Nunsense” Directed by Clare Cooke – April 17, 18, 19 – Fri & Sat at 7:30pm, Sun at 2pm

The Little Sisters of Hoboken present a variety show to raise money for 52 Sisters’ burials after being accidentally poisoned by the cook, Sister Julia (Child of God).  Featuring five wacky Sisters, tap and ballet dancing, an audience quiz, and comic surprises. Sponsored by OhioHealth. General Admission $15.

The Kingston Trio – Sunday, October 5 at 3pm

The Kingston Trio became the supreme folk music group of the late 1950s and 1960s, beginning with their 1958 debut “Tom Dooley.” Additional top hits include: “Scotch and Soda,” “Tijuana Jail,” “I’m Going Home (California),” and “Where Have All the Flowers Gone?” Co-sponsored by United Federal Credit Union. Reserved Seating $20-$30.

Clint Black – Friday, November 14 at 8pm

Spend an evening with Country music legend Clint Black in the intimate setting of the historic Marion Palace.  This Grammy winner’s #1 hits include “A Better Man,” “Nothin’ But The Taillights,” “Nobody’s Home,” “A Good Run of Bad Luck,” “Like the Rain,” and “Where Are You Now?”  Sponsored by The Vincent Group Merrill Lynch. The Who Show – Saturday, January 17 at 8pm

From “My Generation” to “Pinball Wizard” to “You Better You Bet” to “Won’t Get Fooled Again,” The Who Show has been thrilling audiences with the unmistakable live sounds of The Who for more than a decade and earning the title of VH1’s “Most Believable ‘Who’ Tribute Band in the World.” Reserved Seating $20-$28.

Close To You The Music of the Carpenters – Saturday, February 14 at 7:30pm

Spend your Valentine’s Day enjoying the smooth sounds of The Carpenters.   Singer/playwright Lisa Rock and her 6-piece band bring the music of The Carpenters back to the stage with their spot-on renditions of Carpenters classics including “We’ve Only Just Begun,” “Rainy Days and Mondays,” and “Close to You.” Reserved Seating $20-$28.

The McCartney Years – Saturday, April 11 at 8pm

There are many Beatles tributes, but only one note-for-note re-creation of a Paul McCartney “Wings over America” concert from 1973…and this is it! Rewind into the 70s to relive your passion for McCartney with a band that has opened for Mariah Carey, performed sold-out shows and been featured on CNN.  Reserved Seating $20-$28.

Casey Abrams – Saturday, May 2 at 8pm

Casey Abrams was a standout finalist on the American Idol 2011 season thanks to his distinctively original voice and musical ability. At 24 years old, this singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist proved he is here to stay with his 2012 self-titled debut album. Reserved Seating $18, $22 adult, $12 student/college with ID.

Ticket Information

People can still become a friend of the Palace by contributing to the Palace Cultural Arts Association membership drive, which includes member benefits featuring early access to tickets for the entire season.

Ticket sales to Palace members begin Monday, July 28 and are stratified by donation level.  Ticket sales to the general public begin the following Monday, August 4 at 9am.

Tickets for all of these shows may be purchased at the Palace box office, 276 W. Center St. in downtown Marion or by phone at 740/383-2101.  Box office hours are 9am-5pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, closed Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday.
