The Marion Police Department said they arrested an 18-year-old male for allegedly setting fire to a garage that contained a vehicle he allegedly stole earlier.
Officers responded on Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at 5:49 p.m. to assist the Marion Fire Department with a fire at 621 Ballentine Avenue. Officers said they found that a car inside the burning garage was linked to a burglary and auto theft. That incident, which occurred in the 1000 block of East Church Street, was reported at the same time the fire was being doused.
Investigators said the suspect in both the burglary and fire was located at the scene of the fire, which they described as arson, and arrested him.
Tyler Rawlins, 18 of Marion, was initially charged with arson, burglary, breaking and entering, tampering with evidence, and a parole warrant. He was transported to the Multi-County Correctional Center to await formal charges from the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office.
