Patrol Continues to Investigate Crash that Claimed Three Lives

Ohio State Highway PatrolThe Ohio State Highway Patrol says they are continuing to investigate a deadly crash that took place Monday. Because of the number of vehicles involved and other factors, the final report is expected to take a few days to complete.

Investigators have said they do not believe that drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash that claimed three lives and involved six vehicles.

Troopers and emergency crews responded to the crash scene near the intersection of Delaware Avenue and Executive Drive at just before 3:30pm on Monday, July 14, 2014.

The Patrol said their preliminary investigation has revealed the following:

A 2003 Ford Focus drive by Larry Dennison, Jr., 43 of Marion, was traveling southbound on Delaware Avenue near the intersection of Vernon Heights Blvd. when he was involved in a sideswipe crash with a 2013 Honda Fit driven by Elisabeth Warren, 49 of Marion.

Dennison continued southbound, leaving the scene of the crash, and struck four vehicles that were slowing down to stop at the intersection with Executive Drive. They included a 1994 Buick LeSabre driven by Johanna Sisson, 45 of Marion, a 1999 Dodge Durango driven by Raymond Norton, 30 of Marion, a 2002 Ford Taurus driven by Jamie Akers, 41 of Marion, and a 2013 Ford Edge driven by Ann Eckard, 54 of Marion.

The Patrol said the LeSabre and Durango caught on fire and “became engulfed in flames.” The driver and the two occupants of the LeSabre, Edwin Sisson, 50, and Amanda Sisson, 27, sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash and fire.

A total of 11 drivers and occupants were transported to Marion General Hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries. One of the injured, a five-year-old, was then transported to a Columbus hospital for additional treatment.

While initial reports from some media outlets and other sources mentioned a possible drunk driver, the Patrol reiterated that they do not believe alcohol was a factor.

The Patrol hopes to release a final report by the end of the week.
