The 2014 Marion Popcorn Festival’s Orville Redenbacher Parade is set to step off at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 4. The theme for this year’s event will be “Pop Around the Clock”.
Festival officials indicated that, although the overall theme for the Festival is “The Big Pop”, the Festival’s parade and pageant events enjoy setting a secondary theme each year to give the events a coordinated look, as well as giving direction to the infinite creativeness of the participants. It was felt that the “Pop Around the Clock” theme would give parade entrants and pageant contestants a great outlet for their imaginative spark.
Parade entry forms have been sent out to those who have participated in the past. If you are new to the parade or have not yet received your entry form, it may be downloaded from the Festival’s web site at www.popcornfestival.com.
Currently celebrating its 34th year, the Marion Popcorn Festival is the largest popcorn festival in the world with an annual attendance estimated in excess of 250,000 over the three-day festival. Other events include a popcorn cooking contest, a fine art show, crafts, Popcorn 5000 5K run, Popcorn 100 bike tour, a community showcase stage, and more.
Main stage entertainment for 2014 includes Panama: the Van Halen Tribute Band on Thursday, September 4; country star Craig Thompson on Friday, September 5; and classic rock band Night Ranger on Saturday, September 6.
