Harding Students and Parents to Hear from Renowned Motivational Speaker

Harvey AlstonMotivational speaker Harvey Alston will bring his message “Be the Best” to Marion Harding High School on Friday, October 10, 2014. Alston will speak to the student body in the morning. The public is then invited to a session for parents to be held noon-1 p.m. in the Harding media center.

The parents’ session will cover a variety of topics including general parenting tips, social media and discipline issues.

Alston focuses on individual responsibility in his powerful soul-searching presentation. He urges people to strive to be their best.

“As part of our Positive Behavior Intervention and Support program, our hope is that his message in his ‘Be the Best’ keynote inspires students to take ownership of their school and their own education, reflect upon their own academic journey, and strive for excellence in all that they do,” Harding Assistant Principal John Carder said.

Alston, who has spoken around the world, is a former Columbus East High School head football coach. He taught English, biology, health, life sciences and math. Alston has also served as assistant director of student financial aid on the university level.

He serves as the coordinator for the Ohio High School Athletic Association Student Leadership Conferences and is a contributing writer and photographer for the Highland Lakes Monthly Magazine. He serves on the advisory board to the Olentangy Local School District and the Upper Valley Joint Vocational School and serves on many civic boards, panels and commissions.

“Mr. Alston is a world-renowned motivational speaker who has a deep background in the educational field,” Carder said. “His dynamic personality is contagious. His background includes urban school districts up to university level experiences. His passion for the educational field is second to none and his personality can move people to do great things.”

Alston will also talk to student leaders and at-risk students.
