LWVM’s Candidates Night Video Available Online

John Mullins, Harding High School’s Telecom Digital Media Instructor/Director, has announced that Marion’s League of Women Voters October 21 Candidates Night (CN) is now available for viewing on Time Warner Cable’s Community Access Channel 18 (MCSTV), and also on YouTube.

Five of the six 2014 local contested candidates participated in the LWVM debate that was broadcast by WWGH 107.1 FM, with Scott Spears as moderator:  for Marion County Commissioner – Ken Stiverson and Robert Whelan; for State Representative, 86th District – John Allen Babik and Dorothy Pelanda; for State Representative, 87th District – Jeff McClain.  State Representative, 87th District’s opposing candidate, Jeffrey Lehart, stated he could not participate in the debate because of a work schedule conflict.

The CN Channel 18 telecasts may be viewed daily at 6:00 a.m., 2:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. until Tuesday’s November 4, 2014 Election Day.

Harding Telecom Digital Media II Class students who worked with Mullins on production of the CN video included: Zharia Troutman, on camera, and Sadie Wink, Alyssa Foust, and Cain Lackey on editing.

Following the National Education Technology Standards, Mullin’s students collaborate on the setup, capturing, editing, and broadcasting of a variety of community events.  Through these experiences, students learn the critical thinking skills involved in planning and managing projects, solving problems, and making informed decisions re the use of appropriate digital tools and resources. Harding Telecom students are also responsible for managing broadcasts for MCS TV-18 (Time Warner’s Marion Area Public Access Government/Education channel).
