After some incorrect information began circulating about winter coats for kids, Marion Goodwill has clarified their current programs. They do have an emergency clothing program, but they do not automatically hand out free children’s winter coats. The agency said that while they would love to do that, they simply cannot.
Marion Goodwill’s Emergency Clothing Program does provide assistance to individuals and families in need of emergency clothing at no charge. Individuals in need of clothing must be deemed eligible by one of the following organizations: Turning Point, the Homeless Shelter, Job & Family Services, Helpline, Connections, People In Need, the Red Cross, or the Juvenile Court.
After receiving a voucher from one of those organizations, families are welcomed into Goodwill stores to shop for the items they need. This process allows each individual the freedom to choose the items they need from Goodwill’s vast inventory, rather than a limited number of goods donated directly to an agency.
Marion Goodwill is also accepting coats at their retail location in Marion for the Coats for Christmas Program. Those coats will be distributed on December 13, 2014 at Tri-Rivers in Marion, St. Peter’s in Upper Sandusky, and Amvets Post # 27 in Bucyrus.
