Downtown Marion and The Union Bank (formerly The Ohio State Bank) have partnered to launch the annual “Let’s Keep the Cheer Here” program, designed to promote shopping locally.
Pam Workman of The Union Bank said, “This is a continued expansion of a coupon program we began several years ago. We then teamed up with Downtown Marion in 2012 and the added exposure has helped the program grown by leaps and bounds.”
“We are again excited to be a part of this shop local effort,” Herr said. “We have 35 businesses involved, many of those from the Downtown, and each provided a coupon offer and either a $20 or $25 gift card to their business. This gave us over $700 to offer as prizes.”
There will be four winners: a grand prize of $300 in coupons, 2nd place of $200, and two runners up of $100 each, which is set to be drawn on Wednesday, December 17, 2014. The winners can then use their certificates to purchase Christmas presents or given as gifts.
The program will continue through Sunday, December 14.
The Keep the Cheer Here program details include:
- Step 1: Bring a non-perishable food item to Downtown Marion, Marion Convention & Visitors Bureau, bluefusion, both Marion branches of The Union Bank, Cool Kids Resale or Rocky’s Cyclery between November 15 and December 14 and receive a sheet of coupons to locally-owned businesses.
- Step 2: Use your coupons in these great establishments and register to win over $700 in gift cards to locally-owned businesses. The more places you visit, the better chance of winning.
- Step 3: Winners will be drawn on approximately December 17.

“Shopping locally has been a theme for me because nearly all of the stores in Downtown Marion are small businesses,” said Herr. “When you shop local, everyone wins. You support local jobs, our local tax base, and the very businesses who are supporting your interests through donations to local charities, your kids’ school, sports leagues, and more. When you shop at a locally-owned store — or even at a chain store in Marion County — between $68 and $43 of every $100 spent stays local. If you shop in another county or online, virtually none of those dollars come back to help boost our local economy. So where you eat, shop and play truly does matter.”
Workman concurred saying, “And now, with the $700 prize, you have even more of an incentive to visit our hometown establishments.”
