LWVMarion meeting to focus on juvenile detention alternatives

Deborah AlspachLeague of Women Voters of Marion’s monthly program meeting, entitled Overview of Juvenile Detention Alternative Initiative, will be held at United Way of Marion County, 125 Executive Drive, on Thursday, January 15, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. The public is encouraged to attend.

Deborah Alspach, Administrative Judge of the Family Court for Marion County, will provide an overview of Juvenile Detention Alternative Initiative (JDAI) that seeks to reduce the use of detention. She will also discuss C.A.R.E.F.I.T., a visitation center and neutral exchange point for parents and children, and also the use of the court’s Facilities Dog, Camry.  If time permits, Alspach will also describe the court’s alternative dispute resolution options.

Alspach’s professional background includes a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the Ohio State University, a Juris Doctor from Ohio Northern University, working as a Law Clerk for the Law Aid Society, serving an appointment as Magistrate for Marion County Juvenile and Probate Court, and then being elected and re-elected for the Marion County Court of Common Pleas Family Court.

Marion League is actively seeking and welcoming new members. LWV is a nonpartisan political organization founded in 1920 to improve our systems of democratic government and impact public policies through citizen education and advocacy. The League is a grassroots organization with more than 700 local Leagues, working at the national, state and local levels.

Marion’s League, established more than fifty years ago, is best known for the nonpartisan information it provides the Marion community through its Voter Guide and the Candidates Night Forum at election times. People wanting to learn more about League are strongly encouraged to attend any of the monthly meetings.
