The Marion County Republican Central and Executive Committee has selected Jackie Smith and John Meyer as November and December Republicans of the Month.
Smith has been involved in the community by being on the board of the Marion Homeless Shelter, Habitat for Humanity and an active ally of Marion Matters. Additionally, during December she is a Salvation Army bell ringer at the Kroger Delaware store.
She is president of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Council, president of Marion GOP Women’s Club, and directs the food activities at the GOP headquarters during the Popcorn Festival. Recently, she was appointed to serve on the 2015 Program Committee for the Ohio Federation of Republican Women.
A member of the Marion County Board of Elections, she is a retired teacher and administrator and resides with her husband, Don, an attorney. The couple has a daughter, son-in-law and four grandchildren.
Meyer has lived in Marion since 2001 when he married his wife, Linda, who teaches kindergarten at North Union Elementary School. His daughter is in the nursing field in the oncology department at Toledo Hospital.
He started in a field service engineer role for a vibration analysis company in the late 1980s servicing nuclear power plants to automotive final assembly facilities and water treatment plants. In the 90s his focus was informational technology, and he has worked in small high tech startups and Fortune 500 companies.
Meyer has taught computer science classes as an adjunct professor at Marion Technical College and currently works as an independent IT consultant through Agile Solutions, LLC. He has been involved with the local GOP by sharing his computer expertise, most notably during elections.
