The Marion County Park District is hosting a winter hike at the Marion Tallgrass Trail from 1 to 3 pm this Saturday, February 7, 2015. Visitors will be able to hike at their own pace on the snow-covered trail, and may go as far as they would like.
Volunteers from the Friends of Prairie Parks, the support group for the park, invite hikers to stop in the nature center for hot chocolate after their hike.
The Tallgrass Trail is located at 2093 Holland Road West. From Marion, go west on St Rt 309 and turn left on Holland Road. The trail is 1.7 miles ahead, near the bend in the road. The trail is currently paved for 3.7 miles, ending at Espyville Road, and will be extended by an additional 3 miles by Labor Day.
Organizers say that the Tallgrass Trail is very photogenic in the winter, so hikers are invited to bring their cameras.
