One week left to register to vote in May 2015 Special Election

Vote ButtonApril 6 is the voter registration deadline for the May 5, 2015 Special Election in Marion County. There are just three issues on the ballot which affect only Marion Township, Village of Prospect, and the River Valley School District.

Anyone qualified may register to vote at the Marion County Board of Elections Office, 222 W. Center St., Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with extended hours offered April 6 from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Voters also may register at the Office of the Ohio Secretary of State, Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles, the Department of Job and Family Services, Public High school or Vocational schools, the Department of Health, the Department of Mental Health, the Department of Developmental Disabilities, the Rehabilitation Services Commission, or the office of any State-assisted College.

The three issues that will appear on the May 5th Special Election Ballot are:

Marion Township Fire District

A renewal of a tax for the benefit of Marion Township for the purpose of providing and maintaining fire apparatus, appliances, buildings, or sites therefor, or sources of water supply and materials therefor, or the establishment and maintenance of lines of fire alarm telegraph, or the payment of permanent, part-time, or volunteer firefighters or firefighting companies to operate the same, including the payment of the firefighter employers’ contribution required under Section 742.23 of the Revised Code, or the purchase of ambulance equipment, or the provision of ambulance, paramedic, or other emergency medical services operated by a fire department or firefighting company at a rate not exceeding 7.7 mills for each one dollar of valuation, which amounts to $0.77 for each one hundred dollars of valuation, for 5 years, commencing in 2015, first due in calendar year 2016.

Prospect Village Levy

A renewal of a tax for the benefit of Prospect Village for the purpose of current operating expenses at a rate not exceeding 4.3 mills for each one dollar of valuation, which amounts to $0.43 for each one hundred dollars of valuation, for 5 years, commencing in 2015, first due in calendar year 2016.

River Valley Local School District

An additional tax for the benefit of the River Valley Local School District, Marion and Morrow Counties, Ohio for the purpose of providing for permanent improvements at a rate not exceeding 1.5 mills for each one dollar of valuation, which amounts to $0.15 for each one hundred dollars of valuation, for 5 years, commencing in 2015, first due in calendar year 2016.
