Keep Ohio Beautiful announces it’s partnering with Keep Marion County Beautiful and DKMM Solid Waste District to host a FREE Environmental Law Enforcement Workshop on Friday, May 1, 2015. The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the The Ohio State University at Marion, Guthery Room in Maynard Hall at 1461 Mount Vernon Avenue Marion, OH 43302.
Experts involved in local, state and federal efforts to fight environmental crimes will share their knowledge with law enforcement, public officials, community leaders and public defenders at a FREE workshop sponsored by Keep Ohio Beautiful (KOB), a state affiliate of Keep America Beautiful. Communities are increasingly grappling with the effects of environmental crimes.
“Beautification and clean-up initiatives protect public health, increase property value, and reduce crime rates,” states Angela Carbetta, Marion County Recycling & Litter Prevention Director. “Littering is illegal. Open dumping is a terrible problem, and costs thousands of dollars to clean up. We are grateful for the support of local law enforcement agencies for assistance with environmental crimes. This workshop is a great way for all of us to learn more about enforcing environmental laws, and even prevent environmental crimes from happening. I am thrilled that Keep Ohio Beautiful is willing to offer a training program right here in Marion, and sincerely hope that our residents, volunteers, and community leaders will take advantage of such a wonderful opportunity.” Workshop participants will learn how to identify and deter illegal behavior and how to enforce environmental laws, thereby gaining the skills to make their communities cleaner, healthier and safer.
Attendees will learn about enforcing laws governing these crimes and other topics, including:
- Enforcing environmental laws
- Meth lab training
- Environmental enforcement
- Scrap metal
- How to form a local environmental coalition
- Community policing best management practices
You may register online or a registration form can be downloaded at www.keepohiobeautiful.org. For more information please call 330-338-8328.
