Marion Lecture Recital Music Club (MLRMC) will present Tony Award Winning Broadway Musicals 1960-2010 at the Prospect Street United Methodist Church, 185 South Prospect Street, Marion on Sunday, April 19, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. The program is open to the public free of charge, with donations gratefully accepted for the club’s college and music camp scholarships that are annually awarded to local students.
Organized by club member and Pleasant Schools music teacher Julie Kubbs, the musical and dance performances will begin with 1960 and continue in 5 year increments to 2010. A musical selection from each of the shows receiving the Tony Award for Best Broadway Musical will be performed by club members and other community musicians. Broadway musicals highlighted in the review include: The Sound of Music, Fiddler on the Roof, Applause, The Wiz, Evita, Big River, Crazy for You, Sunset Boulevard, Contact, Monty Python’s Spamelot, and Memphis. Among songs to be heard in the program: Don’t Cry For Me Argentina, Home, Moondance, Whatever Happened to My Part?
Vocal solos will be presented by Lynette Burris, Matt Meade, Boston Osborne, Kelly Culler and Ryan Swartz. Jim Anderson and Kevin Orth will perform a vocal duet.
Tess Howard will perform a piano solo and Eric MacFadden will present an alto saxophone solo. Dance numbers will be presented by Sydney Randall, Kalyn Kubbs and Emily Pike.
The Marion Lecture Recital Music Club, an affiliate of both the Ohio Federation of Music Clubs and the National Federation of Music Clubs is in its 94th year. The club’s monthly programs, open and free to the community September to May, feature performances from its members and guest artists.
