The Marion Police Department said they have arrested a teenager for starting a fire this week.
On April 23, 2015, the Ohio State Fire Marshall’s Office with the assistance of Marion Police Department and the Marion City Fire Department began the investigation into the fire which occurred in the 140 block of North Vine Street. A Marion City Firemen was injured as a result of the fire.
Investigators say the fire was believed to be arson as the building was vacant.
Late in the evening on April 23, an arrested was made of a 14 year old male in connection with the fire. The teenager was taken to the Juvenile Detention Center in Marion County and is awaiting formal charges to be filed by the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office.
The investigation is continuing in this case as investigators with the Fire Marshall’s Office, Marion Police, and Marion City Fire Department investigate further leads.
“Arson fires are very challenging to work and solve. The detectives and investigators who worked this case should be commended for their hard work in bringing closure to this case which could have ended in tragedy,” stated Lt. Chris Adkins of the Marion Police Department.
The name of the juvenile has not yet been released as formal charges have not been filed at the time of this release.
