Three hundred and thirty-two have students have applied to graduate from Marion Technical College (MTC) for the 2014-2015 academic year. Two hundred and nine of those graduating will be attending MTC’s Annual Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, May 9, at 10:00 am, at the Palace Theatre in Marion.
The 2015 keynote speaker for graduation is Dr. J. Richard Bryson, who is retiring in June after a remarkable 42 years of service. Dr. Bryson earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Slippery Rock College where he majored in Mathematics and History and minored in English; a Masters of Education with a major in Mathematics from Indiana University (PA); and a Doctor of Philosophy from Bowling Green State University with a major in higher education administration and a minor in Mathematics. MTC officials said he has exemplified the mission of MTC and is leaving a legacy has touched thousands of lives.
Sarah Ard of Galion, Ohio will be the student speaker for the 2015 commencement. Ard attended classes at Marion Technical College while she was attending high school through the post-secondary enrollment option. She took some time off from school and started a family but never gave up on her dream of completing her education. She has been raising four children, attending school and working. She is excited to be a graduating with her degree in nursing (R.N.)
“It means a lot to show my kids you can do whatever you set your mind to do,” Ard said. “This degree is going to change my life and open up a new career field.”
President of Marion Technical College, Dr. Richard Bryson, is leading the commencement ceremony for his 42nd and final year.
“I have been associated with this college for 43 years and for 43 years, this has been one of my favorite moments, watching our graduates receive the recognition they have earned and knowing they have the education and skills they need to make a difference in our community – there is nothing more gratifying,” Bryson states of the 2015 graduation class.
