Deputies recover stolen vehicle, arrest three suspects

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office said deputies made more arrests and recovered a third stolen vehicle Tuesday evening. They had previously recovered two stolen vehicles and arrested four teens earlier that morning.

On June 9, 2015 at around 7:40pm, deputies said they received a tip from the public on the whereabouts of one of the suspects involved in the theft of a red 2002 Mercury Sable that was stolen in the early morning hours of June 8 from the 2700 block of Owens-Green Camp Road. The deputy made contact with one of the suspects and learned that the other suspects and the stolen car were nearby.

A short time later deputies arrested the three suspects and also located the stolen vehicle in the area of West Columbia and Pearl Streets in the City of Marion.

Arrested were 25-year-old Daniel Allan Lanum, of 462 Silver Street in Marion, 25-year-old Mason Shumaker, of 418 Girard Avenue Apt. B in Marion, and 19-year-old Shawn Thomas, of 422 ½ W. Columbia Street in Marion.

All three suspects were arrested for probation or parole violations. Investigators said that charges will also be submitted for Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle. As the investigation continues other theft charges may be filed as well.

At the time of his arrest, Thomas was also charged with Obstructing Official Business and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Sheriff Tim Bailey issued a thank you to the public for providing information to deputies, which directly contributed in these suspects being arrested and the stolen car being recovered. Sheriff Bailey said that anyone who wishes to provide information about crimes or criminal activity can call the TIPS line at (740) 375-TIPS or (740) 375-8477.
