The Marion Police Department, with assistance from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, said Thursday they had made two arrests in connection with two incidents on Sunday where homes were shot at and firebombs were thrown.
On May 31, 2015 at 6:12am, officers from the Marion Police Department responded to 412 East Farming Street for a report that an unknown subject or subjects had fired multiple shots into the residence and also threw a firebomb at the residence.
At 6:38am, another call reporting that an unknown subject or subjects had fired shots into 291 Maple Street and also threw a firebomb at that residence.
No one was injured in either incident and damage to the homes was minimal on East Farming and it was more significant on Maple, according to investigators.
Officials said Thursday they had arrested Cordarius Jones, 26, and Robert Gervin, 25, both of Detroit, Michigan. This case has been submitted to Marion County Prosecutor Brent Yager for formal charges. Police officials said they were requesting charges of Aggravated Arson, Improperly Discharging a Firearm into a Habitation, and more.
“I am extremely proud of the diligent police work by the investigators and officers in this case” said Major Jay McDonald. “These subjects are dangerous and we are glad they are off the streets of Marion. The victims in these cases were extremely fortunate that these acts did not lead to fatalities and we are hopeful that they will find some closure with these arrests.”
