UPDATE: Following the publication of this story, the organizers of Leapin’ Outreach reported that the Marion City Fire Department Inspector has identified some issues within the building. Those issues need to be remedied before the move described below can take place.
Until they are ready to make the move, they will continue to be open at their current location at the corner of South State Street and East Columbia Street.
Leapin’ Outreach Center has announced they are relocating from their current facility in the old Emmanuel Lutheran Church at the corner of South State Street and East Columbia Street to the old Marion Star building on North State Street beside the overpass.
The new-to-them building was donated by the previous owner.
“This new building will not only be handicap accessible and air conditioned, but will offer us and our clients about five times the space that we currently have,” said Regan Hensel.
Leapin’ Outreach Center is a non-profit organization that provides free clothing, household items and personal needs to families and individuals in need who are residents of Marion County. They have been in operation in Marion since 2007 and last year served over 2,600 families in Marion. They are currently open on Tuesday evenings from 5:30 to 7:30 and Thursday mornings from 10:00 to 12:00. We accept donations and volunteers during those hours as well.
Volunteers plan to begin their move on Friday morning, July 24, 2015. They will be closed the following week to allow time to get setup and organized and plan to reopen the new location on Tuesday, August 4, 2015.
“There is a lot to move and we are praying for lots of trucks, trailers and helping hands to make the move go as smoothly as possible,” said Regan Hensel. “The volunteer staff at Leapin’ has been working hard to get the new building ready and we are excited to share and serve the Marion community at our new location.”
The group will be scheduling an open house at a later date.
