Marin Curry was chosen Miss Teeny Pop 2015 this past Saturday during competition at River Valley High School. To capture the crown, Curry garnered the top commercial award, as well as competed in modeling and performed a tumbling/hula hoop routine as her talent.
“When I realized I was going to win it was breathtaking,” said 9-year-old Curry. “I never thought I would be Miss Teeny Pop this year … I’m so excited.”
The 5th grade Johnny Cake Corners Elementary student is the daughter of Marianne and Craig Curry of Galena.
As Miss Teeny Pop, Curry will be featured at all Festival activities, including the Festival’s Popcorn Parade and performing from the main stage. She will also make numerous appearances throughout Ohio during the coming year.
First Runner Up went to 12-year-old Chloe Oliver who captured the overall talent award with her dance routine, as well as the overall modeling award. She also reaped an additional specialty award for generating the most program ads. The 7th grade Grant Middle School student is the daughter of Doug and Marissa Oliver of Marion.
Twelve-year-old Sophia Thompson seized the Second Runner-Up position, as well as garnered a commercial award. She attends River Valley Middle School and is in the 7th grade. The daughter of Doug and Michelle Thompson of Marion, she sang for her talent.
Snaring Third Runner Up was Abigail Bennett. The 11-year-old daughter of Don and Tracy Bennett of Caledonia is in the 6th grade at River Valley Middle School. She performed a clogging routine.
Baeleigh Powers nabbed the Fourth Runner-Up position. The 12 year-old student at Crestview Middle School sang for her talent. She is the daughter of Natalie and Jamie Powers of Ashland.
Taking Fifth Runner Up was 10-year-old Hope Hall who performed a cheerleading routine as her talent. In the 5th grade at River Valley Elementary School, she lives with her grandparents Paul and Melissa Hines of Marion and is the daughter of Paula Dildine and John Brown.
The Sixth Runner-up position went to Faith Scheitler. She is 12 and in the 7th grade at Grant Middle School. The daughter of Jennifer Mogle and Randy Brammer of Marion performed a dance routine as her talent.
Addisen Throckmorton nailed down the Seventh Runner-up spot with her clogging routine. The 8-year-old is in the 3rd grade at McKinley Elementary School. She is the daughter of Meiranda and Jason Throckmorton of Marion.
“As usual, the competition was tight again this year,” said Miss Teeny Pop program chair Morgan Schwartz. “The level of ability these girls display in all three categories …it’s amazing. All of the contestants did an absolutely wonderful job.”
Contestants competed in three categories, Formalwear, Talent and Commercial where participants perform an “advertisement” regarding the Marion Popcorn Festival.
Baeleigh Powers was the winner of the Photogenic Award. This is a separate competition and entering is optional. The outcome has no bearing on the Miss Teeny Pop results.
Event sponsors were Applebees, Perkins, bluefusion entertainment, Carroll’s Jewelers, the Cushings family, the Larkin family, Candel’s Home Renovations, and Take2Studio.
The Marion Popcorn Festival is the largest popcorn festival in the world with an annual attendance estimated in excess of 250,000 over the three-day festival. Main stage entertainment for 2015 includes Straight On: Heart Tribute Band on Thursday, September 10; country star Rodney Atkins on Friday, September 11, and rock band Warrant on Saturday, September 12. All performances on the Festival’s main stage begin at 8:30 p.m. and are free of charge. Other events include the Popcorn Parade with over 300 units, a popcorn cooking contest, a fine art show, crafts, Popcorn 5000 5K run, Popcorn 100 bike tour, the Community Showcase Stage, the Hometown Talent Stage, the Poppin’ Party Stage, and more.
