The Marion County Park District is offering a slate of free programs for the general public, with the following events scheduled for September.
- Monday, September 7: Predator/Prey Game from 5 to 6pm at the Tallgrass Trail Nature Center.
- Saturday, September 12: Hike with a naturalist at the Tallgrass Trail from 9 to 11am. The nature center will be open from 11 am to 5pm, with bird adaptations classes at 1 and 3pm.
- Monday, September 14: Mammals Class from 5 to 6pm at the Tallgrass Trail. Come learn about some of Ohio’s mammals and how to recognize them when you are out on the trail.
- Friday, September 18: Night Hike at 9pm at the Tallgrass Trail. Enjoy the magic of an evening on the trail. Bring bug spray and red flashlights.
- Monday, September 21: Fall Nature Hike at 5pm at the Tallgrass Trail.
- Saturday, September 26: Bicycle hike on the Tallgrass Trail with a naturalist, from 9 to 11 am. The nature center will remain open from 11 am to 5 pm, with a Paw-Paw program at 1pm. Come learn about Ohio’s native fruit and some different ways that it is used.)
- Monday, September 28: Tracking Program at Terradise Nature Preserve at 5pm. Come learn how to identify the tracks of many animals around the area.
In addition, the Tallgrass Trail Nature Center will be open 4-7:30pm every Monday evening.
The Tallgrass Trail nature center is located at 2093 Holland Road West, Marion. To reach the trail, head west from Marion on SR 309 and turn left on Holland Road. The nature center is near the curve in the road.
These programs are appropriate for all ages.
The Terradise Nature Preserve is south of Caledonia, off SR 746. Visitors should turn west on Marion-Williamsport Road and continue to the dead end.
