21st season of Five Nights continues diverse lineup

Ohio State University at MarionSince its inception in 1995, Ohio State Marion’s Five Nights on Campus performing arts and entertainment series has hosted over 100 performances ranging from theatrical portrayals of historic American icons to Broadway musicals.  The musical diversity of the series has included genres from folk, blues, jazz, and sacred music, to rock, country, swing, big band, and a cappella.

Designed specifically for the residents of central/north central Ohio the series is intended to complement the other entertainment opportunities available to the community.

This season’s line-up includes The Palace Theatre Big Band, featuring vocalists Johnny Steiner and Ann Schertzer; the student based Broadway musical production A Day in Hollywood, A Night in the Ukraine; The OSU Men’s Glee Club; TR The Man in the Arena; and The General Guinness Band.

According to Program Coordinator Gary Iams, who spearheads the program for Ohio State Marion, the diversity of talent they recruit each year can be challenging, but choosing acts that reflect the ideals of the program is made easier through some of the campus’s associations.

“First and foremost, I like to personally hear each act,” explained Iams, who is a musician himself.

“We are members of the Ohio Arts Presenters Network.  They have a conference every year where they invite performers, agents, and presenters.  There is another one called the Arts Midwest Conference,” Iams said.

“Word of mouth is also another way to ensure we present that unique line-up the community has grown accustomed to.  We get suggestions every year,” he added.

All performances begin at 7:30 p.m. in Morrill Hall Auditorium. Doors open at 7 p.m. All tickets are general seating.  For tickets, sponsorship opportunities, or more information on Five Nights contact Gary Iams at: (740) 725-6253 or e-mail: [email protected]

Ticket prices remain unchanged for the upcoming year.  Individual performances are priced at $10 general admission, $9 for seniors (60 and up), $4 for students, (grades k-12, and college), and $8 for campus faculty and staff.  Season ticket prices also remain unchanged for 2015-2016, at $50 for Scarlet & Gray Patron tickets; $35 general admission; $30 seniors; $15 students, and $28 campus faculty & staff.

As always, the series is made possible through the support of community minded business in our area. 2015-16 sponsors include:  Clear Channel Media & Entertainment;  Frontier Communications; Marion Community Credit Union; Marion Industrial Center, Inc; Stifel; Marion Technical College; Morral Companies, LLC; Ohio Health; The Herald; The Marion Star; and Sims Brothers Recycling; and Wyandot, Inc.  Special thanks to The Ohio State University Alumni Club of Marion County and Buckeye Backers (Ohio State Marion’s volunteer group).

The mission of Five Nights on Campus is to provide exceptional and diverse cultural and educational opportunities and to encourage the community to be a part of campus life.  Now entering its 21st season, the popularity of the campus based entertainment series continues to engage the community and bring people to the campus.
