Campus student musical, A Day in Hollywood, A Night in the Ukraine, opens Thursday

The Ohio State University at Marion will present the musical production, A Day in Hollywood, A Night in the Ukraine, on Thursday, November 5 and Friday, November 6, at 7:30 p.m. in Morrill Hall Auditorium as part of their Five Nights on Campus cultural arts series.

According to Director Scott Persinger, this student-based musical production promises a tuneful evening and lots of laughs.

Winner of two Tony Awards, this hit Broadway musical was directed and choreographed by Tommy Tune. Presented in two parts, this campy, live, double feature provides more hilarity than any presented in Hollywood’s heyday. A Day in Hollywood is a salute to the Golden Age of film musicals. A Night in the Ukraine is based on Chekov’s one-act play, The Bear, and introduces the audience to a hilarious array of characters as featured in the wildly entertaining Marx Brothers’ films.

“It’s a unique show because you are getting two shows for the price of one,” Persinger said. “It’s also a hilarious show.  The cast is a small close knit group of dedicated and talented actors that have a firm grasp on the 1930s decade and their characters.”

“I promise you won’t be disappointed,” Persinger added. “There are a lot of musical numbers and dances in the show that keep it moving along.  It is a very fast paced show.”

The cast of the musical includes:  Mike Cochran as Samovar; Hannah Fuller as Mrs. Pavlenko; Kris Kasotis as Carlo; Alex Kauser as Gino/Sascha; Shannon Lyle as Masha; Evan Pfeifer as Constantine; and Mckenzie Reinhart as Nina.  The production staff includes: Director – Scott Persinger; Music Director – Austin King; Assistant Director/Choreographer – Matt Mead; Sound & Light Engineer – Brian Jester/JCR Studio; and Producer – Wayne Rowe.

Tickets are available in advance by calling 740-725-6340 or in the Office of Community Relations & Development, Maynard Hall, Room 240. Tickets are $15 general admission; $10 for students.  Tickets will also be available at the door the evening of each performance, while they last.

The book and lyrics for A Day in Hollywood, A Night in the Ukraine were written by Dick Vosburgh and music by Frank Lazarus.  “A Day in Hollywood, A Night in the Ukraine” is presented by special arrangement with SAMUEL FRENCH, INC.
