Marion Young Professionals (MYP) is moving, and they have found a new home with United Way of Marion County.
MYP was formed in 2010 by a group of local young professionals as a means of creating opportunities to develop socially, professionally and civically while making Marion a better place to live, work and play. In 2011, MYP became affiliated with the Marion Community Foundation.
“The Community Foundation was critical to the founding of the Marion Young Professionals group,” explained MYP President Van Creasap. “However, we think United Way will be a better fit for our long-term goals.”
MYP has organized a number of community events, including the Summer Soiree Concert, which was a fundraiser for the Marion campus of Ohio State University’s Go Bucks program. Members of MYP have also been active volunteers in community organizations like the Tallgrass Trail and Relay For Life, among others.
“We are incredibly pleased to have MYP join us,” said United Way of Marion County Executive Director Pam Stone. “Their energy and youthful outlook is a wonderful catalyst for the things we would like to accomplish in the future.”
United Way will provide some structure and organization for the group as they work to provide social networking, professional development and community involvement for professionals in their 20s, 30s and 40s. Events are planned monthly, ranging from skill workshops to community tours and social events.
Annual membership in MYP is $25. Applications are available at www.marionyoungprofessionals.org, along with the calendar of events. Upcoming events include, Networking & Happy Hour in November and participating in the Peanut Push event in December.
