The Salvation Army in Marion announced that it will provide the funding to secure housing for tenants at the Buckeye Mobile Home Park through year-end. The tenants had faced forced eviction due to the lapse in water utility payments by the mobile home park landlord.
The Salvation Army said they worked with representatives from Aqua Ohio and Marion Public Health all day Friday in an attempt to set a plan that would allow park residents to have time to better plan out their relocation.
“This situation was not tenable for us, with people being forced onto the streets as we head into the coldest days this season,” stated Major Paul Knickerbocker at The Salvation Army. “Our mission is about helping those most in need, and these families are a perfect example of how we can translate donor’s contributions into acts of tangible benefit for those in our community.”
The Salvation Army agreed to provide utility payments for the rest of the month to secure the housing for the tenants, indicating it has allotted up to $20,000 for this purpose, if and as necessary. They will continue to work with other area agencies, as needed, to assist these residents with their relocation.
“Our mission is to serve,” continued Major Knickerbocker. “I’m so grateful that we can be a blessing to these families at a time when no one else seemed able to help them in this way.”
The Salvation Army has served in the Marion community for over 128 years, providing area residents assistance with food, utilities, housing, crisis intervention and much more. Currently, The Salvation Army is active with its iconic red kettle campaign, as it seeks to raise $45,000 to provide social services to local residents in the year ahead.
