Members of The Ohio State University at Marion staff, members of the campus Social Work Club, and a host of community minded individuals are joining forces this Valentine’s Day to spread love and warmth to Marionites through their “Loving Scarves” campaign.
The Loving Scarves campaign provides anonymous donations of scarves, hats, gloves, and mittens, donated by community members to others in need of these items to help stay warm during the winter.
The concept of Loving Scarves is being spearheaded by Ohio State Marion Director of Human Resources, Maryjo Mundey. According to Mundey, this is being done in other communities, which inspired her to reach out to the Marion community and help others in need.
“I want to be able to give back,” said Mundey. “I was also inspired by an article I read about a similar program in Tiffin, Ohio. It makes me feel warm inside when I can help others feel warm.”
The group of volunteers plan to collect donations of scarves, gloves, hats, and mittens, as well as monetary donations to purchase these items through Thursday, February 11th. The items will then be bagged and distributed throughout the community on Saturday, February 13th. Those wishing to take advantage of these donations are asked to look for bags with red hearts that read, “I’m Yours.” Donated items will be inside each bag, which will be attached to trees, on benches, phone poles, and other easily accessible public locations.
According to Mundey, this is all about helping those less fortunate.
This prompted her to launch the grass roots movement on Facebook and with colleagues on campus and her friends.
Those wishing to make a donation are urged to drop items at Ohio State Marion’s Maynard Hall, Room 250 between now and February 11, 2016, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
